The US Secretary of State indicated to the Chinese that the US is not interested in creating a crisis or escalating relations • Blinken also said: "The shooting is a disproportionate and unjustified escalation"

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, spoke today (Friday) against China's missile firing towards Taiwan: "China's missile actions are unjustified, disproportionate and provocative".

He also said: "China's missile firing around Taiwan is a disproportionate and unjustified escalation. The US has made it clear to China that it is not looking for a crisis."

As you may recall, against the backdrop of a demonstration of air power by mainland China, the plane of Nancy Pelosi - the speaker of the American House of Representatives and the second in line to the presidential succession in the USA - landed in the capital of Taiwan.

She received an official welcome, to the dismay of Beijing, which emphasized in recent days that it would not put it on the agenda.

At the same time as the landing, Chinese fighter jets crossed the Taiwan Strait, apparently with the aim of clarifying that China does not recognize the airspace of the island, which unilaterally separated from the communist regime in the 1940s in the midst of the civil war.
